Money for this race leg: $46.00
Money for the entire race: $46.00

Day One
Thursday, July 5th, 2007

In Singapore, the ten teams are transported to the starting line at the Asian Civilisations Museum. In order of appearance in the season's opening credits, they are:

1) Pamela/Vanessa, sisters representing Malaysia
2) Edwin/Monica, dating couple representing Hong Kong
3) Marc/Rovilson, best friends representing the Philippines
4) Terri/Henry, married couple representing the Philippines
5) Diane/Ann, "dancing mums" representing Malaysia
6) Adrian/Collin, gym buddies representing Singapore
7) Sophie/Aurelia, ex-housemates representing Singapore
8) Daichi/Sawaka, brother and sister representing Japan [and the first Japanese TAR team]
9) Kinaryosih/Brett, dating couple representing Indonesia
10) Natasha/Paula, childhood friends representing Thailand

At the Asian Civilisations Museum, Allan briefs the teams and reminds them that the prize is US$100,000. When he says go, teams run to their backpacks and read the first clue, placed on top of the bags. The clue contains a postcard showing a Singaporean landmark. Teams must search within a 300-yard radius (around 270 metres) of the museum for a taxi which has a figurine of the landmark shown in their picture. There are ten taxis with different figurines and teams find theirs, getting their next clue from the cab driver:

1) Pamela/Vanessa
2) Sophie/Aurelia
3) Marc/Rovilson
4) Adrian/Collin
5) Diane/Ann
6) Natasha/Paula
7) Kinaryosih/Brett
8) Daichi/Sawaka
9) Edwin/Monica
10) Terri/Henry

The next clue directs teams to take their taxi to Faber Point and find the Merlion, which they do in bunches:

1) Pamela/Vanessa
2) Adrian/Collin
3) Marc/Rovilson
-----
4) Sophie/Aurelia
5) Diane/Ann
6) Kinaryosih/Brett
7) Natasha/Paula
8) Daichi/Sawaka
----
9) Edwin/Monica
10) Terri/Henry

Teams are told to take a Nokia N95 GPS and use it to direct the driver to the next clue. The directions lead to Suntec City Mall, where teams arrive in the same order (though Sophie/Aurelia and Diane/Ann pull ahead of the teams they were bunched with), and find their first:

Dare <--DETOUR--> Stair

Teams selecting DARE must take an elevator to the roof of Tower Three, and complete a Tyrolean (hand-over-hand) Traverse to get to the next clue on the adjacent Tower Four. PROS: Task is much quicker. CONS: Task takes place 181 metres (just short of 600 feet) above the ground, so is likely to be scary.
Teams selecting STAIR must climb the stairs to the roof of Tower Three, return to the lobby, walk to Tower Four, and climb to the cluebox on the roof. PROS: Not scary. CONS: Both towers are 45 floors high, so the task will be very physically demanding, and much slower.

All ten teams choose Dare, and finish:

1) Adrian/Collin
2) Marc/Rovilson
3) Pamela/Vanessa
4) Sophie/Aurelia
5) Diane/Ann
6) Daichi/Sawaka
7) Natasha/Paula
8) Kinaryosih/Brett
9) Terri/Henry
10) Edwin/Monica

Teams are now directed to fly to Manila, the capital city of the Philippines. When they land, they must find the CCP Complex in Asian Promenade Park.

The first eight teams all manage to arrive at Changi International Airport in time to take the same Singapore Airlines flight to Manila arriving later that afternoon. Terri/Henry and Edwin/Monica arrive too late to make this flight, and are relegated to the next flight on Singapore Airlines a couple of hours later.

In Manila, teams arrive at the CCP Complex:
1) Marc/Rovilson
2) Pamela/Vanessa
3) Diane/Ann
4) Adrian/Collin
5) Daichi/Sawaka
6) Kinaryosih/Brett
7) Sophie/Aurelia
8) Natasha/Paula
9) Terri/Henry
10) Edwin/Monica

They are now directed to find a particular balut seller located in Plaza Miranda. There, they must eat eight balut between them. Balut is a local delicacy consisting of duck eggs with a partially formed duckling fetus inside, and teams can divide the eight balut however they wish. Teams find the vendor:

1) Pamela/Vanessa
2) Marc/Rovilson
3) Adrian/Collin, who lose their cab to the departing Pamela/Vanessa when they arrive
4) Diane/Ann
5) Kinaryosih/Brett
6) Sophie/Aurelia
7) Natasha/Paula
8) Daichi/Sawaka
9) Terri/Henry
10) Edwin/Monica, who arrive after all nine other teams have left

They finish eating their balut:
1) Pamela/Vanessa
2) Marc/Rovilson
3) Adrian/Collin
4) Kinaryosih/Brett
5) Diane/Ann
6) Sophie/Aurelia [despite graphics showing them finishing 7th]
7) Natasha/Paula
8) Daichi/Sawaka
9) Terri/Henry
10) Edwin/Monica

The final clue of this leg directs teams to Fort Santiago, a former Spanish fortress, and the Pit Stop for this leg of the race. They check in:

1) Pamela/Vanessa, who each win a Nokia N73 mobile phone, and an N95 GPS like those used in this leg.
2) Marc/Rovilson
3) Diane/Ann
4) Kinaryosih/Brett
5) Sophie/Aurelia
6) Natasha/Paula
7) Adrian/Collin, whose driver mistakenly went to the airport
8) Daichi/Sawaka
9) Terri/Henry
10) Edwin/Monica, who are not eliminated, but are Marked For Elimination. Unless they finish first, they will be given a 30-minute penalty before being allowed to check in.
