The Amazing Race Asia 1, Leg 5 Timeline: You Guys Should Hitchhike More Often

Money for this race leg: Not stated (but definitely some money, except Howard/Sahran who get nothing)
Money for the entire race: $354.00, plus whatever was given for Leg 3 and this leg.

Day Eight
Saturday, June 3rd, 2006

The teams leave from Sydney following an extended Pit Stop:

12:30am - Andrew/Syeon
+2min - Sharon/Melody (12:32am)
+11min - Sandy/Francesca (12:41am)
+35min - Mardy/Marsio (1:05am)
+61min - Sahil/Prashant (1:31am)
+66min - Zabrina/Joe Jer (1:36am)
+68min - Andy/Laura (1:38am)
+306min - Howard/Sahran (5:36am)

Teams are directed to fly to Auckland, New Zealand. Though there are several airlines and flights between Sydney and Auckland, teams are specifically told that they must fly Air New Zealand.

All teams take the same flight arriving later that day. They must take a taxi to the ferry terminal, travel by ferry to Devonport, and search for a girl in a swing near the Devonport ferry terminal. When they find her, she will give them their next clue.

All teams take the same ferry, waste various amounts of time searching for the girl, and find her:

1) Andrew/Syeon
2) Zabrina/Joe Jer
3) Andy/Laura
4) Howard/Sahran
5) Mardy/Marsio
6) Sandy/Francesca
7) Sharon/Melody
8) Sahil/Prashant

She provides them with this leg's:

Rugby <--DETOUR--> Rigging

Teams must first take the ferry back to Auckland before completing either option.
Teams selecting RUGBY must head to Victoria Park, don an All Blacks jersey, and kick three rugby goals between them from the 22 metre line. PROS: Not confusing. Easier task. CONS: Task requires accuracy.
Teams selecting RIGGING must head to Westhaven Marina, find a set of marked yachts, and rig a sail on one to match the sample yacht exactly. PROS: Observant teams could finish quickly. CONS: Could be confusing. Harder task.

Teams choose options and finish them:
1) Andy/Laura, who chose Rigging
2) Zabrina/Joe Jer, who chose Rigging
3) Andrew/Syeon, who originally chose Rigging but switched to Rugby
4) Howard/Sahran, who chose Rigging
5) Sahil/Prashant, who chose Rugby
6) Mardy/Marsio, who originally chose Rugby but switched to Rigging
7) Sandy/Francesca, who chose Rigging
8) Sharon/Melody, who chose Rigging

Teams must now make their way to Sky City, Auckland's largest casino and the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere. There, they must complete the Vertigo Climb in order to be given their next clue. They arrive and complete the first-come-first-served climb:

1) Andy/Laura
2) Andrew/Syeon
3) Zabrina/Joe Jer
4) Howard/Sahran
5) Sahil/Prashant
6) Sandy/Francesca
7) Mardy/Marsio
8) Sharon/Melody

Teams must travel to the 53rd floor before reading the clue, which is a:

ROADBLOCK
"Who's ready for a leap of faith?"

In this RoadBlock, the chosen team member must complete the SkyTowerJump, while their partner captures the moment on a Sony Cybershot digital camera. The chosen team members finish the jump, again first-come-first-served:

1) Andy [Andy 3, Laura 1]
2) Andrew [Andrew 2, Syeon 2]
3) Zabrina [Zabrina 2, Joe Jer 2]
4) Howard [Howard 3, Sahran 1]
5) Prashant [Sahil 2, Prashant 2]
6) Francesca [Sandy 2, Francesca 2]
7) Mardy [Mardy 3, Marsio 1]
8) Sharon [Sharon 2, Melody 2]

The final clue of this leg directs teams to take a taxi to the Pit Stop at Auckland Museum. Teams arrive and are greeted by a Maori:

1) Andy/Laura
2) Andrew/Syeon
3) Zabrina/Joe Jer
4) Howard/Sahran
5) Sandy/Francesca*
6) Mardy/Marsio*
7) Sharon/Melody*
8) Sahil/Prashant, who had arrived fifth, but received an one-hour penalty for hitchhiking in Devonport, and who are eliminated.

*NOTE: These three teams are greeted as teams #6, #7, and #8.
